Promoting and preserving Attleboro’s historical treasures

The Attleboro Historic Preservation Society, Inc. (AHPS) was organized in 1999 by a group of citizens concerned with the future of the East Attleborough Academy Building located at 28 Sanford Street in downtown Attleboro.

The Society works in conjunction with the Attleboro Historical Commission to

  • Preserve, promote and develop the historical assets of the Attleboro
  • Promote the education of all citizens of Attleboro as to the historical treasures located within the city
  • Promote the study, collection and preservation of historical records, traditions, relics, landscapes, landmarks and building located in and related to Attleboro

  • December 14 (Thursday) at 5:30 PM – Members’ Holiday Dinner at Morin’s Diner (tickets will be available for sale prior to the dinner)
  • January 18 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Marian Wrightington, “Attleboro’s Caprons”
  • February 15 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Sacred Spaces: The Holy Family Coptic Orthodox Church, 208 South Main Street
  • March 21 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Rachel Killion, “Patchwork: Short Attleboro Histories”
  • April 18 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Rhett Butler, “The Signers of the Solemn League & Covenant (location for this program hasn’t been determined)
  • May 18 (Saturday) at 10 AM: Jerry Turcotte: Walking Tour of Newport Avenue (including a tour of Sadler Bros. factory). Parking available at Sadler Bros. factory and Bethany Village Fellowship, both on Newport Avenue
  • June 20 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Deborah Sampson, Massachusetts heroine (only woman known to disguise herself in order to serve as a soldier in the Continental Army). Janet Parnes, of Historical Portrayals by Lady J, will help us get to know Deborah Sampson through her engaging portrayal. This program will be enlightening and fun for all ages – bring your children and grandchildren!

    • October 19 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Don Doucette, “Unleashed GOING UPTOWN – A Farm and Urban Encounter. A child’s deeply personal cultural memoir of Attleboro during the 50s & 60s”
    • November 16 (Thursday) at 6:45 PM: Bob Lanpher, “Collecting Postcards: Illustrated from an Attleboro Collection”
