Now just a note from me before I post this. The cover image is definitely a fire. The images inside, not so much. The photos in this book are just reproductions of common postcards. Most of the subjects were not anywhere near the fire location and some of the images were taken after 1898. Now 120+ years later people are still buying this on eBay expecting to get a bunch of fire photos, the original bait and switch author would be proud.
One of the most devastating events occurred on May 17th, when passengers arriving by train spotted flames licking from a building near the depot. 24 hours later almost 2 dozen businesses were destroyed and 3,000 residents found themselves out of work.
