Walton & Lonsbury

Walton and Lonsbury were a metal finishing company located on North Avenue near Haywood Field. Their claim to fame was a hardened chrome plating process that they called “Walhard”. While the finish was more expensive than traditional chrome plating it was more durable and useful for marine hardware and other applications where toughness would matter. One huge downside to any kind of chrome plating was that it was extremely toxic throughout the entire process. To this day the EPA monitors the W&L site after a $20+ Million Dollar Superfund Site remediation.

This lighter shows the use of years of smoking (no worries the chrome probably killed him first). The cover hinge has some play from wear and the side of the windscreen shows where the cover slides down to close. I am not a smoker nor need a Zippo for anything this was purchased solely for the case and the awful part of Attleboro history it has become.
