Attleboro.org
is the work of Attleboro native Joe Bieniecki. A chance find at a flea
market sparked an interest in local history that has become a near
obsession. The driving force is a desire to preserve items that would be
lost forever and are of local historic significance.

Among the collection are dozens of early and hand drawn maps,
extremely early photographs and glass slides, books of all ages, glassware
and pottery, government documents, business corospondence and thousands upon thousands of
postcards.

Originally published as
AttleboroToday.com on the 4th of July 2000, this site received some local attention
when the Sun Chronicle ran a small story about it.
In
May of 2001 the Attleboro Historical Commission recognized the original
AttleboroToday site with a Historic Preservation Award.
Word of mouth made
the site wildly popular for its images. This success became a liability
when the traffic shot up to thousands of hits per week.
Hosting the site became too expensive and it floundered in a shell of
its former form while we struggled to find a suitable balance between
design and size. The great news is hosting has improved in the last
few years like all computer technology, prices have become very reasonable
and it is now possible for us to store the huge amount of data needed for
all of the images and documents and
serve it up to more users at an acceptable cost to us.

It is our hope to be able to provide this site to you for both pleasure and education for many years to come.
